Harry Kurrie's gray Porsche 356-C

I ordered my car in November 1963 and took delivery in January 1964, from Foreign Car Sales in Birmingham, Alabama. This is an early SC that had the plain, flat hubcaps. I ordered a Bendix Sapphire AM-FM radio and a headrest on the passenger seat. Early on, I added a driver side headrest, and over the ensuing years upgraded with an Abarth exhaust system, 6" Fuch's (from Denny Denyer) etc. Vic rebuilt the engine to 1730-50 cc's., in about 1992, I had it bumped and repainted in 1998 and redid the seats with Auto International leather in 2002 for Charleston. I covered over 3,000 miles going to/from Charleston with a few side trips in April 2002, and she never missed a beat. The car has 117,127 miles on clock, and is still fun to drive. Since I started out in Tennessee, and traveled the hills, mountains and dales of the southeast, I totally agree with Gerald VanVliet that Michigan is very boring for driving these cars.

Since I have an original car and know everything that has been changed over the years, Loren Shook use it to see exactly how the factory did things when he restored his black SC for the Cincinnati Holiday, in the early 90's.

As an aside, I am an first edition Registry member, I just happened to see the original ad in Road and Track looking for people interested in doing a 356 club. I sent in my money and have been with the club since.

To return to the Motor Cities Gruppe web home page just press return ... still some work to be done here.
